Discover Sant Feliu de Guíxols
South of Van der Valk Hotel Barcarola lies the traditional fishing village of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Located on the Costa Brava resort, with beautiful long beaches. Despite being situated between the two most touristy cities of the Costa Brava, the village is relatively unknown.
The residents are very proud of their village and love to share this with visitors. They organize various activities throughout the year for both residents and visitors. Every Sunday, there is a typical weekly market on the boulevard, and the traditional Catalan dance, called the Sardana, is regularly held on Sundays.
Historical sights
In addition to these activities, Sant Feliu de Guíxols is known for its Benedictine monastery. The monastery is located in the old center of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The monastery has several features that make it worth visiting, namely: the old Romanesque gate 'Porta Ferrada' and the church 'Parroquia Mare de Déu dels Angels'. A fun fact about Sant Feliu de Guíxols is that the city was built around the monastery! The village grew larger from the 10th century onwards. The monastery, the Romanesque gate, and the church truly exude a beautiful and fascinating culture!
Beautiful coastline
In addition to the beautiful culture that (old center) Sant Feliu de Guíxols has, the village has a coastline of about 10 kilometers long! With several large sandy beaches, but also some smaller beaches. The large city beach, called Platja de Sant Feliu, is located just behind the harbor near the old center. The fine sandy beach is sheltered from the wind due to its location and is about 500 meters long, perfect for families who want to spend a day at the beach!
The smaller bays are a bit more secluded, yet they are beautiful. The more secluded bays are perfect for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts!
